Ever since I was a little kid, I've always been consumed with buildings and how they are built. It started with an obsession with LEGOs, and my parents spending thousands of dollars on that obsession. However, that hobby evolved into me wanting to become an architect when I grew up. I love the idea of being able to create something that will live forever, a skyscraper that will pierce up from a city skyline. Unfortunately, I have yet to take the first step toward that dream and get an architecture internship, but I would love to be involved in an architecture firm in any capacity.
Another reason why architecture is so important to me is affordable housing. Most of my family comes from India, which suffers from overpopulation and a housing crisis. That's shaped my perspective, and I've tried to get involved with affordable housing locally. I volunteered at my local Habitat for Humanity build site, and even got my school to send a group of volunteers to help as well. It was an amazing opportunity, not only for somebody who loves volunteering, but also as somebody who will hopefully become an architect. It gave me experience on the build side as a construction worker, a perspective most architects never get, but an important one regardless.
What I want to do specifically is create a program that allows people to generate architectural plans based on a series of prompts. This allows a user to be able to be able to design the house of their dreams, but minimizes the costs for both the architectural firm and the user. This combines several of my interests, like computer science, architecture, and affordable housing. This passion project is something I hope to build in college and maybe turn into a full business before I even graduate. Obviously, it's a high bar to try and get to, but I will continue to add onto this project as I start to build it.Â
